David Bowie’s Space Oddity is turned into a children’s book.
Make Major Tom your kid’s hero!
Already the influence behind numerous acts’ music including the likes of Def Leppard, Pet Shop Boys and Marilyn Manson; films, and now Major Tom’s Space Oddity is being turned into a children’s book.
The song has served as the inspiration for a an animated picture book, by graphic designer Andrew Kolb who has taken the lyrics from the 1969 song David Bowie song.
“It was one thing to make images that corresponded to the lyrics,” Kolb told Wired. “But it was another to try to make it function as a visual story on top of that. In my early drafts it didn’t really work as a picture book, and that was my goal all along. It’s been really cool hearing all these different interpretations of the lyrics, and all I can say is that the approach I took was the one that translated best to an image-based story. Either way, how could you not have fun designing spacesuits and jet packs!?”
The book is currently available as a free download from Andrew’s website, though there are plans to release a physical copy very soon.
